The State Bar's LRIS is designed to help individuals and businesses that need an attorney and can afford to pay for legal services.

Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS)The normal business hours for the LRIS are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday.
When you contact the LRIS, you will speak with a trained staff member. You can also submit an online form to request the referral.
The trained staff member will ask you a few questions about your case and the type of services need. WHen appropriate, you will be referred to an attorney in your area who practices in the needed area of the law. The attorney is referred on an impartial, rotating basis.
The attorneys that participate in the service have agreed to provide an initial 30-minute consultation in exchange for an initial consultation fee that will not exceed $20.00. During the consultation, you can discuss the case with the attorney and the attorney fees needed for additional services.
The attorneys that serve as panel members of the LRIS are licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan, and carry malpractice insurance. These attorneys have also fee to join the LRIS. These attorneys have expressed their willingness to take cases in particular practice areas and in a particular geographical area.
