Since 1976, the Hampden County Bar Association (HCBA) has sponsored a Lawyer Referral & Information Service (LRIS) in Springfield, MA. The service helps individuals and businesses find a private attorney experienced in the needed practice area of the law throughout Western Massachusetts. The lawyer referral service of the Hampden County Bar Association is recognized by the American Bar Association for meeting its standards.
Attorneys that participate in the service are licensed to practice in Massachusetts and in good standing with the Hampden County Bar Association. The attorneys must carry malpractice insurance and apply to serve on panels related to specific practice areas. The HCBA has established experience requirements for panel attorneys, as well as other eligibility requirements.
When you call the service, a trained staff person will ask you a few questions about your case during a confidential consultation. When appropriate, the service will refer you to a local attorney with experience in the needed practice area. The hours of operation for the lawyer referral service are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
The attorneys that participate in the service agree to charge no more than $25.00 for an initial half hour consultation. During the consultation, you can discuss the case with the attorney and the attorney fees needed for additional representation.
