Bankruptcy Judge Blocks Cancer Victims from Civil Courts
Washington, DC — The following is a statement from American Association for Justice CEO Linda Lipsen on today’s bankruptcy court decision allowing Johnson and Johnson to exploit the bankruptcy system to prevent cancer victims from seeking accountability:
" Johnson and Johnson’s poisonous baby powder causes cancer, a fact they hid for decades. Johnson & Johnson has now received a green light to evade accountability, limit compensation to cancer victims and undermine civil justice. Today’s overreaching decision is a smack in the face to cancer patients and their families, and a complete abuse of the bankruptcy system by a massively profitable corporation. Congress must act to ensure this contemptible gimmick is not replicated by other corporations."
